The Serena Abeles Raab Holocaust Education Center at Michlalah-Jerusalem College offers a wide range of activities for teachers specializing in the field of Holocaust Studies. The Raab Holocaust Education Center was founded in 1994 on the premise that teaching Holocaust remembrance is an integral part of shaping contemporary Jewish identity. It has developed into a national center for teacher training and in-service courses on the Holocaust that emphasize Jewish values, religious steadfastness during the Holocaust, and historical sources that reflect spiritual resistance. Testimonies of faith during the Holocaust, moral and halakhic dilemmas, and theology are integral parts of the academic program. The Raab Holocaust Education Center staff are pioneers in the development of teaching methods and have assembled a wealth of materials that serve as a foundation for researchers, teachers, and students. Its extensive activity is made possible by the support and encouragement of the Conference on Jewish Material Claims against Germany, Inc.

Holocaust education at Michlalah is characterized by the gamut of historical topics taught on an advanced academic level. Graduates of the program are granted a certificate to teach Holocaust Studies in schools. The program provides students with experiential learning and employs a multidisciplinary approach that incorporates archival films, testimony films, dramatizations, media, and study units. The Raab Holocaust Education Center benefits from the didactic expertise of Michlalah's Department of Education and its staff members work closely with Michlalah's skilled technicians in the fields of media and computers.

The following aspects of the Holocaust are addressed:

History, historiography, and research methods of World War II
  Theology and halakhah
Literature: poetry and prose written during and after the Holocaust
  Documentation in pictures
Documentation in art: paintings, drawings, handicrafts, and calligraphy

Goals of the Holocaust Education Center:

To teach Holocaust Studies on an academic level and to invite guest lecturers to speak on topics in their fields of expertise.

To strengthen Jewish identity through the study of the Holocaust. Courses in the Raab Center highlight Jewish faith, Jewish thought, and testimonies of religious experience during the Holocaust.

To demonstrate diverse teaching methods in our teacher-training program and in-service courses, provide lectures on didactics, familiarize professionals with our study units, and share our experience in the production and use of films.

To create and provide tools for use in interdisciplinary teaching of the Holocaust through the incorporation of historical research, evidence of dedication to halakhah during the Holocaust, theology, psychological aspects of the Holocaust, literature and poetry, and art. To develop teaching units that take into account the age, level of education, and degree of Jewish identity of diverse groups in the population and to give teachers the tools to develop such units themselves.

To develop unique curricula for immigrant children from the former Soviet Union that explore historical information and strengthen the children's roots and Jewish identity.
